In the year after getting ordained, I was convinced I needed a collection of blazers to legitimize my status as a professional.

So at every thrift shop, I always made sure to check the blazer section. Over time, I collected about 5 secondhand blazers. All of them were less than $12 a piece, I’m sure. Have I worn any of them on an actual work day? No.

I didn’t even bring a blazer to job interviews last year, opting instead for nice cardigans or sweater vests to class up my look. It turns out that a clergy shirt signifies that I’m a church professional just fine.

But today, I needed to set a “I’m not messing around” tone to support a parishioner. So I put on my favorite secondhand Loft pants and added this beige secondhand blazer.

I actually think I bought these items on the same day at the Goodwill near my old house in Houston.

I wore my standard Sacred Stitches clergy top. I like it because it’s knit cotton with a comfortable tab collar.

I finished off the look with a new-to-me pair of Charix shoes I got cheap from the Housing Works thrift store’s web shop. If you’re looking for designer, like-new, or slightly more interesting secondhand items, I highly recommend them. They’re a NYC based shop, so it’s good pickins.
